Know a stressed employment lawyer?

Dr Natalie Isaia is speaking to members of the Employment Lawyers Association this month about Emotion Regulation Techniques for High Stakes Situations. This one hour webinar will cover physiological tools to reverse the fight-or-flight response, grounding techniques and cognitive strategies to help you stay cool, calm and collected. We'll also be talking about how to personalise these strategies and ensure that you are able to implement them effectively.

feelings-wheel

Spotlight on:

Labelling our emotions is an underrated skill, but is foundational for regulating emotions effectively. There are many tools that can help with this and my most recommended tool is a Feelings Wheel (or Emotion Wheel). There are lots of versions online that offer varying levels of complexity. Find one that suits you and print it out or make it your desktop background. Use it to label exactly how you're feeling when you're hit with in an intense (or not so intense) emotion.

Here is the solid neuroscience and clinical rationale behind why this works:

😊 It activates the prefrontal cortex, which regulates emotional responses.

😲 This reduces the amygdala’s reactivity, lowering emotional intensity.

πŸŽ“ It enhances emotional awareness and creates cognitive distance, allowing you to process emotions more effectively.

πŸ‘« It enables you to better communicate your emotions so that you can receive the right support.

wellbeing in the news

Wellbeing in the news:

A small selection of what we've seen so far this month:

πŸ’‘ The CEO magazine offer some helpful and actionable tips for leaders who want to build resilient orgaisations.

πŸ’‘ Make A Difference Media are also giving away free actionable tips for employers wishing to foster resilience in the workplace. Importantly, they highlight how the overall system must first be conducive to positive wellbeing.

πŸ’‘ Harvard Business Review talk about getting the maximum ROI from your employee wellbeing intervention (plot spoil: a lot of it is what we do!).

πŸ’‘ Forbes discuss the importance of leaders genuinely prioritising wellbeing within company culture (not just shelling out for a one-size-fits-all EAP).

πŸ’‘ LSE summarise research that suggests leader humility is related to higher resilience in teams and better wellbeing for the leader themselves.

It's one thing reading articles, it's quite another to know how to implement this advice in your organisation. We're here to help! Email us today to discuss evidence-based training for leaders.
