Moral Injury in HR

We teased this in our July newsletter and now our first podcast episode is available for you to download!

Dr Natalie Isaia speaks with Anthony Ryland to reveal why moral injury is a concept you should be aware of. We focus on examples that are specific to HR professionals, such as taking staff through disciplinaries or punitive sickness procedures, leading on redundancies, or trying to bridge corporate priorities with individual staff wellbeing.

This is not just an HR issue though. Many other professions face moral injury in their day to day roles. We work with many lawyers who regularly bring this up as a source of stress, but who do not have a term to put to the feeling.

Listen today if you want to learn:

๐Ÿ’กHow to spot moral injury and how this phenomenon poses a risk to your wellbeing at work.

๐Ÿ’ก Evidence-based tools for preventing moral injury turning into burnout or presenteeism.
๐Ÿ’ก Practical tips to support HR leaders to protect their own wellbeing while supporting their organisations.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ If you've listened to the episode we'd love to hear from you! How does moral injury show up for you? Were the strategies useful? Is there anything else you want to know about in relation to this topic?

Spotlight On: World Mental Health Day

On the 10th October it is World Mental Health Day. At Empresa Psychology we believe that the mental health of everyone in your company should be a priority every day. Too many of us are making ourselves sick through chronic stress and overworking, and we're not even aware of it. There is overwhelming research demonstrating that companies who prioritise employee wellbeing are more productive and more profitable. Especially when times are tight, and priorities are shifting from growth towards profits and efficiency.

If you're streamlining your company processes, you cannot afford to have staff who are not thriving and performing at their best.

What is the most important thing you need to understand in order to get this right?

๐ŸŒŸ Mental health IS physical! Your burnout and brain fog is not being caused by abstract ideas or a conceptual imbalance in how you are spending your time. It is:

๐Ÿง  A result of the parts of your brain that respond to threat going into overdrive and tricking you into behaviours that provide short term relief, but cause long term ill-health.

โ€ผ๏ธ A physiological imbalance between the branches of your nervous system, that is preventing your body from going into the state it needs to in order to repair your immune system.

๐Ÿงช Stress hormones pumping through your system, causing damage to your cells and organs (anyone struggling with chronic pain or digestive issues?).

The good news is there are lots of science-backed strategies to learn and implement, that can help you start to reverse these processes in yourself and in your organisation. This is what we focus on in our training. Book a free consultation today to talk to us about prioritising mental health in your workplace - not just for the 10th October, but every day.
